Do you know why "Boys over flowers"/"Hana Yori Dango"/"Meteor Garden" is so sad and so attractive to me and millions of fans?
I thought about it before, i thought it was the good looking cast, the classic rich man falls in love with a poor girl story, the extreme-ness of such encounters and how rare, how rare it is in real life!! And of course, the devotion of the 2 boys (Rui, Domyoji) towards her.
But no, somehow today, it dawns upon me that there is something more within. A tragic element. It feels very sad and yet so real to me. In one episode from the Korean version, her long time childhood best friend asked herself while mulling over the difficult situation her friend is in:
"What if your lover and your soulmate are two different people?"
One man is completely devoted and in love with her even when she didn't like him at all, at first
The other man has her heart long before he knows it, but as they connect more deeply with each other through many encounters, he started to fall in love with her
Who should she choose? Both men are in love with her. Although of cos the drama makes it easier, because she just started to admire and feel some respect for the first man because of the things he does for her.. it touches her deeply and she is slowly drawn to him.
But in reality, are things so coincidental?
What if, the one who loves you most and the one who understands you best are two different people?
